Description

Mechanical & Electrical (M/E) Engineering Responsibilities

  • Completes mechanical, electrical, and field construction activities, progressing from entry-level to increasingly complex work.
  • Develops budgetary M/E estimates based on program and schematic design information using automated estimating systems.
  • Reviews mechanical and electrical system options; performs system analyses and recommends optimal solutions.
  • Provides value-engineering suggestions.
  • Develops M/E scopes of work and coordinates these scopes during the bid process.
  • Assists with subcontractor bid analysis and provides input during subcontractor selection.

Construction Sequencing, Scheduling & Documentation

  • Develops sequencing requirements for various systems and proposes solutions to meet project schedules.
  • Provides scheduling input during projects.
  • Reads and interprets plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Reviews design documents to identify potential quality issues and assists in developing quality control programs.
  • Performs jobsite inspections to ensure compliance with specifications, schedules, and quality expectations.

Commissioning & Submittals

  • Learns and assists with the shop-drawing and submittal process; eventually reviews and approves shop drawings before submission.
  • Assists with and eventually leads commissioning activities, including:
    • Developing pre-functional checklists
    • Creating functional testing procedures
    • Conducting or verifying functional tests
    • Issuing the Commissioning Plan
    • Verifying corrective actions
    • Submitting final commissioning documentation to owners

Team Support & Process Improvement

  • Mentors less experienced co-workers as experience increases.
  • Creates M/E tools and innovative solutions to improve processes and work products.
  • Builds strong internal and external relationships and supports collaboration.

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and on time.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (Intermediate).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate).
  • Ability to read and understand plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Developing proficiency with JE Dunn construction M/E tools and software.
  • Knowledge of construction management means and methods.
  • Strong team-building and collaboration skills.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Architectural Engineering
    • Or related field
  • Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Preferred: 5+ years of construction and/or engineering experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
  • 8+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Active P.E. License (Professional Engineer).
  • Proficiency with Revit for design documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and highly organized.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on healthcare or hospital projects.
  • AHCA (Agency for Health Care Administration) project experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise Assistant Project Managers, Foremen, General Foremen, and field crews
  • Manage bidding, estimating, and project acquisition activities
  • Oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution
  • Coordinate with construction management and other trades to maintain schedules and resolve conflicts
  • Represent the company in project meetings and client interactions
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, inspectors, vendors, and trade partners
  • Ensure projects meet profitability, quality, and performance goals
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, NEC codes, and safety standards
  • Monitor safety performance and take corrective action when necessary
  • Oversee project documentation, reporting, change orders, billing, and closeout processes
  • Ensure job sites remain clean, organized, and professional
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate project team members
  • Support workforce development for helpers, mechanics, and foremen

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience in the commercial electrical construction industry
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering and electric power systems
  • Field experience coordinating with construction management teams
  • Extensive knowledge of project scheduling, estimating, bids, take-offs, change orders, and contracts
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects across multiple locations
  • Demonstrated success managing a profitable project portfolio

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license
