About the Job

A growing consulting firm is seeking an experienced Life Safety Engineer/Project Manager with a focus in healthcare facility compliance to manage projects, lead client and AHJ relationships, and provide code consulting services to architects, hospitals, and healthcare systems. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of healthcare occupancies and the regulatory landscape affecting hospitals, providing support across services including compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, Joint Commission and other regulatory agency standards, NFPA 101, and local building codes.

Ideal candidates will be a “seller/doer” with at least 10 years of experience in the Fire & Life Safety field, with demonstrated expertise in healthcare occupancies and a desire to manage projects, interface with clients, and mentor entry-level consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Serve predominantly as a project manager on healthcare-specific projects.
  • Lead client account management for hospital systems and healthcare organizations.
  • Execute core project management responsibilities while reviewing and assisting other project managers.
  • Prepare complex deliverables such as Statements of Conditions (SOC) life safety assessments, interim life safety measures (ILSM), variances and waivers, and present compliance approaches to clients and AHJs.
  • Serve as a technical resource for healthcare facility regulations, including NFPA 101, CMS, and accreditation requirements.
  • Perform contract review and negotiation.
  • Provide leadership on key healthcare client relationships and cross-sell the firm’s services.
  • Mentor and train entry-level consultants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, architectural, or industrial engineering (Fire Protection Engineering preferred).
  • 10+ years of fire protection and life safety engineering experience, with significant healthcare compliance expertise.
  • Prior project and healthcare client management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare-specific regulations and standards (NFPA 101, CMS, Joint Commission, DNV, etc.).
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to build rapport with healthcare executives and AHJs.
  • Ability to manage high-pressure, deadline-driven situations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Located in New England or New York, with ability to travel regularly to hospital sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor junior engineers and field staff
  • Manage multiple geotechnical projects from proposal to completion
  • Prepare technical proposals, review contracts, and track project budgets
  • Conduct subsurface investigations and perform field & lab soil testing

Perform engineering analyses:

  • Soil classification and laboratory interpretation
  • Shallow and deep foundation design
  • Retaining wall analysis and design

  • Oversee geotechnical report preparation and review:

  • Earth retaining structure reports
  • Laboratory test summaries

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Geotechnical Consulting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, report-writing, and project coordination skills
  • PE or PG license (or in process)
  • Experience with field/lab equipment and interpreting soil data
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Work Schedule

  • Standard 8-hour shift, Monday–Friday
  • In-person at Tallahassee, FL 32303
  • Must be able to reliably commute or relocate before starting
