Job Overview:
- We are seeking a highly experienced Construction Inspection Engineer to oversee the inspection of roads, bridges, and related infrastructure for county, city, and other local government agencies.
- The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background (geotechnical, structural, or pavement-related) and a proven track record in field inspection and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site inspections of roads, bridges, and municipal infrastructure projects.
- Ensure compliance with AASHTO and ASTM standards for construction and pavement inspection.
- Monitor foundation installations for bridges and retaining walls; prior geotechnical inspection experience is a plus.
- Supervise and document materials testing, including pavement cores, soil compaction, and concrete quality.
- Utilize nuclear density gauges and electrical density gauges for field compaction testing (a plus).
- Review contractor work to ensure adherence to plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Prepare inspection reports, technical documentation, and compliance evaluations.
- Coordinate with government agencies, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and field inspectors.
Qualifications &
Skills:
- PE License in Illinois (Required).
- 10+ years of experience in construction inspection, roads, bridges, or pavement engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master's is a plus).
- Strong knowledge of AASHTO and ASTM standards related to construction inspection.
- Experience with geotechnical foundation inspections (preferred).
- Familiarity with nuclear density gauges and electrical density testing (preferred).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and materials testing results.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
