Position Summary
- The Maintenance Unit Supervisor is a salaried leadership role responsible for overseeing a union crew of electricians and mechanics, ensuring operational safety, reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Reporting to the Area Technical Leader, this role provides technical troubleshooting support, root cause analysis, and crew leadership while balancing productivity, recovery, and delivery performance.
- This position involves supervising union employees on 12-hour rotating shifts (day and night) within established departmental schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and guide mechanical crafts, providing technical direction for maintenance activities.
- Lead both planned and unplanned maintenance to achieve department performance goals.
- Foster a safe and compliant work environment; conduct safety discussions and job-specific safety reviews.
- Allocate and assign work fairly, prioritizing based on critical business needs.
- Manage crew arrangements, including scheduling for planned/unplanned absences and vacation coverage.
- Apply root cause analysis and rapid problem-solving techniques to maintain or restore production.
- Collaborate with craftspeople, peers, and management to drive results and resolve conflicts.
- Ensure operational performance in safety, quality, quantity, timeliness, and recovery.
- Support training and technical skill development of crew members.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School diploma or GED (accredited institution).
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (visa sponsorship not available).
Preferred:
- Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with union environments and labor agreements.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (ABS).
