Summary:
- Our client is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to lead the traffic engineering practice across South Carolina. This leadership role combines technical expertise, project oversight, and business development, offering the right candidate an opportunity to shape and grow a dynamic traffic engineering portfolio.
- The ideal candidate will be experienced in managing, planning, analyzing, and designing a variety of traffic-related projects, including traffic signal systems, pavement marking plans, crash and safety analyses, traffic studies, and maintenance of traffic plans. Strong leadership, client engagement skills, and familiarity with SCDOT standards are essential.
Key
Responsibilities:
- Lead the traffic engineering discipline across South Carolina, including strategy, execution, and team development
- Develop and maintain client relationships, and lead marketing and proposal efforts
- Manage department budgets and resource planning
- Oversee and mentor junior and mid-level engineering staff
- Provide technical support and quality control on traffic-related deliverables
- Direct and manage a variety of traffic design and study projects, including:
- Traffic signal and system design
- Signing and pavement marking plans
- Roadway lighting (as needed)
- Traffic modeling and simulation
- Crash and safety analysis
- Maintenance of traffic (MOT) and detour planning
- Collaborate with clients, municipalities, agencies, and subcontractors on complex projects
- Participate in performance reviews and staffing initiatives
Must-Have
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in traffic engineering design, planning, and analysis
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an ABET-accredited program
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in South Carolina
- In-depth experience working with SCDOT and understanding of their policies and publications
- Familiarity with traffic analysis/simulation tools (e.g., Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, etc.)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and general engineering software packages
- Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing skills
- Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) credential
- Experience in leading cross-disciplinary teams
- Existing client relationships within the South Carolina transportation and infrastructure space
