- Location: Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
- Industry: Mining and Resources; Geology
- Work Type: On-Site; Full-time
Overview:
We
are seeking an experienced Senior Mine Geologist to join the geology team at a
high-grade underground gold operation in Papua New Guinea. This is a key
site-based role supporting safe, efficient, and profitable underground mining
through high-quality geological interpretation, grade control, and short-term
mine planning support. The role works closely with the Geology Manager and
Deputy Geology Manager and interfaces daily with mine operations, planning, and
engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities:
The
Senior Mine Geologist will be responsible for:
- Delivering accurate and timely underground mine geology and grade control, ensuring ore boundaries, structures, and mineralisation are clearly defined for production.
- Building, updating, and refining 3D geological and structural models using Leapfrog (essential) to support grade control, short-term planning, and reconciliation.
- Integrating diamond drilling, face mapping, channel sampling, and underground observations into geological models in near real time.
- Supporting the design and execution of grade control, infill, and short-range drilling programs, in collaboration with mine planning and drilling teams.
- Interpreting structurally controlled, high-grade vein systems, including identification of ore shoots, plunge controls, and structural offsets.
- Assisting with mine-to-model and mine-to-mill reconciliation, identifying geological drivers of variance and recommending improvements.
- Maintaining high standards of sampling quality, QA/QC, and geological data integrity, consistent with PNG regulatory and company requirements.
- Preparing and reviewing geological inputs for weekly and monthly mine plans.
- Providing geological guidance to operations to maximise recovery, minimise dilution, and manage geological risk.
- Using Deswik (highly regarded) for short-term mine design review, reconciliation, and alignment between geology and planning.
- Supporting resource development activities through interpretation of underground drilling and model updates.
- Mentoring and supervising junior and national geologists, contributing to skills transfer and localisation objectives.
- Ensuring all geological activities comply with PNG statutory, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Contributing to regular reporting on geology performance, reconciliation, and forward work programs.
About You
You
will ideally bring:
- A degree in Geology (Honours preferred).
- 8–12+ years’ experience in underground gold mining, ideally within structurally complex, high-grade vein systems.
- Advanced, practical experience with Leapfrog for structural and orebody modelling.
- Working knowledge of Deswik for mine planning and reconciliation (desirable but not essential).
- Strong understanding of underground grade control, face mapping, sampling techniques, and reconciliation workflows.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with mine operations and planning teams.
- A safety-first mindset and high professional standards.
