POSITION SUMMARY:

A career-minded Water/Wastewater engineer, looking towards advancement, is needed to join our client’s fast-growing Water/Wastewater consultant engineering practice. The employee will plan and lead engineering designs in the water/wastewater field through working knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards, and processes; conduct multiple design projects simultaneously, prepare and update project schedules; develop, analyze, and document critical design elements; coordinate the efforts of a design team to determine requirements and incorporate feedback.

The selected candidate will become part of an established team of engineers working on exciting sewershed study and rehabilitation, new sewer design, water distribution, water/wastewater treatment, and pump station projects in the Mid-Atlantic. The employee is expected to provide quality engineering evaluation and design services efficiently with limited supervision to support the project team’s objective and provide customer satisfaction on all projects, delivering projects of high quality on schedule and within budget.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze project requirements and information from alternative studies to develop an accurate report for submittal.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects/tasks.
  • Assessing and identifying collection/distribution system performance deficiencies, predicting future issues, and developing solutions for planning and design projects.
  • Candidates must demonstrate familiarity with hydraulic designs, sewer rehabilitation, water and sewer design, water and water/wastewater pump station and treatment process design, engineering economics, preparation of specifications, and engineering report writing.
  • Candidates should have a firm grasp of general heavy construction principles; environmental facilities operations-related experience is considered a plus.
  • Perform design computations.
  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools.
  • Develop or review the construction cost estimate.
  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Attend meetings with clients and assist in taking meeting minutes.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and understand how they fit into the project and design.
  • Quality review of project design in accordance with the Project Management Plan.
  • Technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within the department.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-10 Years’ Experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Proficient in related design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, ArcGIS, and MS Project.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and communication skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Possess a Professional Engineering License.
  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time.
  • Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking.
  • Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
  • Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.

Job Description:

  • This position's scope includes system operation, preventive maintenance, and mechanical and electrical repair. Key Accountabilities and Outcomes:

  • Keeping logs and other information on operating results and problems
  • Analyzing information to determine preventive maintenance plan

  • Using hand tools and specialty tools for repair and maintenance
  • Inspecting equipment routinely using sight, sound, and gauges

Required Skills / Experience:

  • 1–3 years hands-on experience maintaining an industrial ammonia refrigeration system (vacuum systems, screw compressors, blast/storage freezers, condensers, chilled water cooling systems)
  • Experience with nitrogen flash freezers and Reco/Frigoscandia brand freezers highly desired
  • Electrical, pipe fitting, hydraulics, and pneumatics experience beneficial
  • Basic business traits: attendance, punctuality, hygiene, and high school level education in communication, reading, and math
  • Technical training in ammonia refrigeration, nitrogen freezing systems, mechanical/electrical maintenance
  • Knowledge of microprocessors, 110–480 Volt 3-phase AC electricity, pipe fitting, conduit installation, wiring, pneumatics, hydraulics
  • Skilled in all aspects of mechanical/electrical maintenance of industrial food freezing systems
